Monthly Gardening Advice - January |
- Live Conifers which have been used for indoor display, will have to be reacclimatised to outdoor weather. During this transition period it would be best to keep them in a shed or cold greenhouse for a few weeks to give them the best chance of survival.
- Prune deciduous trees and shrubs and deciduous climbers, but avoid early or spring flowering varieties.
- January is a good time for planning the spring – summer garden. Many seed raised plants can be planted in January and February – see the wide range of seeds in store.
- There is still chance to plant spring flowering bulbs this month including Narcissus and Tulips.
- Keep feeding the birds they rely on a regular supply for the next few weeks, particularly during cold snaps. Nesting boxes can be put up now.
