• Cut back shrubs with winter stem color this month e.g. cornus alba vars. Cut back shrubs used for winter stem colour, ornamental grasses and herbaceous plants left for winter interest this month.
• Clean weeds from beds before applying a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost. Clay soils can be improved by working in coarse gravel and organic matter.
• Bare root hedging plants can still be planted this month, prior to bud break.
